Bangkok – Koh Samui by night train
The great thing about trains in Thailand is that you can travel at night, avoiding the need to buy a hotel room to sleep in. When we arrived at the station, we booked our seats for the night train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, for the following evening. The train leaves at 9.20pm, but we had to arrive an hour early for boarding formalities. Tickets cost 588 baht per person. We were surprised to see that the train was very dirty. All the windows and glass were covered with dust, as if the train had not been cleaned for a long time. The only thing that was clean was the toilet which was very tidy and well cleaned. We asked the employee why the train was so dirty and he told us that the train had come from Bangkok and that there had been people who had not been able to clean the train. We chose the upper beds, which are the most expensive, as the lower ones, as there is more leg room and you can be more comfortable. The upper beds cost 600 baht and the lower beds 500 baht. Inside the compartments there are sockets for charging phones and laptops. There is also a toilet in each carriage and a shower. We slept very well on the train. It is a really good way to travel between the islands and cities of Thailand. We slept for about 7 hours and arrived in Surat Thani at 5.40am.
